It’s officially Scorpio season, the nights are growing longer as the veil grows thinner. 

We hear that a lot this time of year, but what exactly does it mean?

The veil represents the threshold between dreams and reality, life and the afterlife, the mundane and the mystical, the material and the spiritual, conscious and the subconscious. 

There are places on earth where the veil is perpetually thin, and there are times of year where you can feel it as well. Solstices, equinoxes, and eclipses to name a few – but it is the thinnest at the end of October, beginning of November, the time known as Samhain or Halloween. You may be seeing or feeling and increase in signs and synchronicities, and even be receiving sporadic divine downloads. This is also what makes Scorpio season a perfect time for divination practices.

Scorpio is depicted as the Alchemist, and is known for it’s great transformation from Scorpion to Phoenix. But in order to transform, one must first undergo a profound and often challenging process of self-discovery and regeneration.

It’s the feeling of stepping into the cocoon. Saying goodbye to our former selves, officially closing out karmic cycles whose purpose has been fulfilled, with gratitude. There naturally is a grief. But it is preparing us for the greatest re-birth yet. 

This is the time where we go inward and allow the spiritual transformation to begin taking place- and a new version of ourselves will truly come to life in the physical plane during the next Aries/Libra eclipse (April 2024).

Tips for Energetic Protection During the Samhain + Eclipses

As Samhain approaches in tandem with the Lunar Eclipse, it’s essential to safeguard your energy and well-being. Begin by creating a sacred space where you can center yourself. Light a white or black candle to set your intention. Consider using Florida Water, a traditional spiritual cologne, to anoint yourself as a protective shield against negative energy and spirits. Visualize a barrier forming around you, safeguarding and strengthening your personal energy. 

Next, sprinkle Florida Water around your space in a clockwise motion, symbolizing purification and protection. Water, in its cleansing capacity, can serve as a powerful barrier against unwanted influences. In folklore traditions, crossing water is believed to represent a transition from one realm to another, and spirits are unable to make this transition. 

If you have clear quartz or black tourmaline, you can carry it with you as a protective talisman.  As you conduct these practices, remember that the strength of the protection lies with your intention. Close the ritual with gratitude and an affirmation: “I am surrounded by a shield of bright, golden light. I am divinely protected and guided. I walk my path in confidence and security.”

Even if you don’t believe in literal spirits, this can always be viewed symbolically and energetically. The practical effects of setting these intentions is to keep yourself grounded and present as we embark into the darkest time of the year.
