We are officially in the thick of Scorpio Season, and what better time to honor our goddess Hekate.
She traces her roots back to the pre-Olympian era, where she was considered a primal deity associated with the night, moon, and the liminal spaces between realms. In classical Greek mythology, Hekate is described as the daughter of Titans Perses and Asteria, a legacy that places her among the divine primordials. Over time, she became more prominently associated with her role as the goddess of crossroads, guiding travelers and decision-makers in their life journeys. Her reputation extended to the mystical and magical arts, with Hekate often invoked in spells, rituals, and rites, earning her recognition as the “Queen of the Witches.” In the Roman period, her worship spread across the Mediterranean, and she continued to be revered in diverse contexts. Today, her legacy endures as a powerful and enigmatic deity in contemporary pagan and neopagan traditions, where she remains a source of guidance and inspiration.

Working with Hekate requires a respectful and mindful approach. To forge a connection with this multifaceted goddess, consider the following steps:
1. Get to know Hekate: You may be tempted to buy books, google, and research the goddess, which is all fine and encouraged. However, in my experience, the best way to get acquainted with this goddess is to go within yourself and meet her through meditation.
2. Create an Altar: Set up a dedicated altar space for Hekate. Include items such as torches or black candles, keys, images or statues of the goddess, and offerings like herbs or incense like Dragon’s Blood. Click here for our featured Hekate fine art print, designed specifically for your altar!
3. Invocation: Call upon Hekate with respect and sincerity. You can do this through prayers, chants, or invocations that express your intentions and seek her guidance.
4. Offerings: Make offerings to Hekate, which may include food like pomegranates, libations, herbs, or other items she is traditionally associated with. Offerings demonstrate your devotion and respect. In my experience, she loved an offering of hurricane water (if you find yourself in any kind of storm, collecting the rainwater and including it in an offering is a great way to banish/cleanse/remove unwanted habits or energy.)
5. Meditation and Rituals: Engage in meditations or rituals that are aligned with Hekate’s themes, such as divination, shadow work, or magic. Seek her presence and guidance during these practices.
6. Consultation: If you have specific questions or decisions to make, you can invoke Hekate for guidance at the crossroads of your choices. Meditate on your options and listen for intuitive insights.
7. Respect Boundaries: Hekate is a powerful goddess, and it’s essential to approach her with reverence. Respect her boundaries and be mindful of her role as a guardian of the mystical and supernatural.
8. Maintain a Relationship: Building a relationship with Hekate takes time and consistency. Regularly revisit your altar, continue to make offerings, and engage in practices that honor her presence in your life.
Remember that working with Hekate is a personal and spiritual journey. Your approach may evolve over time as you develop a deeper connection with this enigmatic goddess and her unique energies.
